A New Song for Hebrew Language Day 5785: "שְׂפַת עֵבֶר"
|
|
|
The Academy is proud to present "שְׂפַת עֵבֶר" – an ode to the living, thriving Hebrew language. Hebrew scholar Dr. Vered Saydon wrote the lyrics; singer and composer Hanan Yovel wrote the music and performs the song, accompanied by the Hassadna Jerusalem Music Conservatory choir.

Word of the Year – מִלַּת הַשָּׁנָה
|
After soliciting proposals from the public and receiving thousands of suggestions, the Academy has narrowed the field to 10 of the leading contenders for Word of the Year (not surprisingly, all of them are related to the war). Now the choice rests in the hands of the public. Make your voice heard by voting! The Academy will announce the winner on Hebrew Language Day.

Hebrew Championship 5785 – אַלִּיפוּת הָעִבְרִית תשפ''ה

|
|
The Academy invites you to test your Hebrew knowledge in the Hebrew Championship quiz. Each round of play consists of 20 questions, drawn randomly from a pool of hundreds, on a variety of topics in the field of Hebrew. You have up to 30 seconds to answer each question; your speed affects your score. You may play multiple rounds. The Academy will announce the five winners on Sunday, January 26, at 12:00 pm IST. They will receive modest gifts from the Academy bookstore.

Hebrew Language Olympiad for Youth
|

The Hebrew Language Olympiad for Youth, an international competition of linguistic prowess, will begin on Sunday, January 19, with the online release of the question set. Contestants must submit their answers by the following Sunday. Then the finalists will compete in person at Tel Aviv University (foreign residents – at an institution in their area). The contest is designed for students in grades 7–12 but open also to younger aspirants; participation is free. Register in advance to receive the questions upon publication. The Olympiad is an initiative of the Department of Hebrew Language and Semitic Linguistics at Tel Aviv University, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and AHL. Winners receive a cash prize and a scholarship as well as a certificate.

Poster Set – עֶרְכַּת כְּרָזוֹת
As usual, the Academy has released a new set of posters for Hebrew Language Day. The 5785 posters display language questions frequently asked by the public, along with the Academy’s answers. In response to popular demand, AHL has also made many older posters available for free download as PDF files.
